About ArkSpace

The Exocortex Constellation Project

What is ArkSpace?

ArkSpace is a speculative research initiative documenting the technology required for satellite-based neural computing infrastructure. We explore the intersection of neuromorphic processors, optical inter-satellite communications, and consciousness substrate theory.

The project emerged from a simple question: What if we could extend human cognition beyond the biological brain, distributing it across a constellation of satellites in Low Earth Orbit?

Technology Readiness Level 2

Current Status

ArkSpace is currently at TRL 2: Technology concept formulated. This means we have moved beyond basic principles and are actively documenting practical applications and system architectures.

TRL Scale Reference

  • TRL 1: Basic principles observed
  • TRL 2: Technology concept formulated (current)
  • TRL 3: Experimental proof of concept
  • TRL 4-6: Technology development and demonstration
  • TRL 7-9: System development and operations

Research Areas

Neuromorphic Computing in Space

Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs) offer significant advantages for space deployment: lower power consumption, inherent fault tolerance, and event-driven processing. We document approaches for radiation-hardening these systems for the orbital environment.

Optical Inter-Satellite Links

Laser-based communication between satellites enables data rates of 60-200+ Gbps. For neural data transmission, this bandwidth is essential for maintaining cognitive continuity across distributed substrates.

Consciousness Distribution

The core theoretical challenge: How do you maintain unified consciousness across multiple physical substrates separated by hundreds of kilometers? We explore latency constraints, synchronization protocols, and the philosophical implications.

Earth-Mars Architecture

With 3-22 minute one-way light delays to Mars, traditional real-time consciousness transfer is impossible. ArkSpace documents architectures for autonomous neural substrates that could enable human presence across interplanetary distances.

The Zae Project

ArkSpace is part of The Zae Project, a collection of speculative research initiatives exploring the boundaries of human-technology integration. Our work spans brain-computer interfaces, neural preservation, and distributed cognition.

Disclaimer

ArkSpace is a speculative research project. The technologies documented here represent theoretical frameworks and engineering roadmaps, not currently operational systems. We believe that rigorously documenting future possibilities is itself valuable work.
